Stephen & Bonnie Simon

Bonnie and Stephen have been leading musical figures in the Washington, D.C. area for nearly 30 years. As Executive Director and Founding Music Director of the Washington Chamber Symphony, the resident chamber orchestra at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, they brought innovative programming for audiences of all ages. Deeply committed to sharing the joys of orchestral music, they augmented the perpetually sold out evening concert series with educational concert programs for parents and children, and delightful entertainments in the concert hall that included Holiday Sing-Along Spectacular, Great Composer Series, and the highly publicized national conception, Viva Vivaldi!, that recreated Vivaldi's All-Girl Orchestra.

The Simons have now started Magic Maestro MusicTM, a recording company that specializes in music for young people and their families. The initial series, Stories in MusicTM, features works for narrator and symphony orchestra in the tradition of Peter and the Wolf. The first CD release, Stories in MusicTM: Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, featuring music conducted and composed by Stephen Simon; the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and Yadu, the famous narrator, has won numerous awards and national critical acclaim. Casey at the Bat, the second CD in the series, has just been released, and Juanita the Spanish Lobster is scheduled for summer 2006 release.

Sonaré Winds enables musicians to get the most from their musical experience by creating and distributing instruments that offer exceptional acoustical performance and value. By partnering with world renowned companies that include Verne Q. Powell Flutes, Blackburn Trumpets and Schreiber Keilwerth, we believe a musician's instrument should enhance their ability to experience the fun and joy of making music. Sonaré Winds makes this vision a reality by providing student and professional musicians with quality instruments at a reasonable price.

Two years ago, Sonaré Winds (a division of Verne Q. Powell Flutes), partnered with famed artisan Cliff Blackburn of Blackburn Trumpets, to design a revolutionary new trumpet. It began in Saxony, Germany with a beautifully crafted trumpet with a 200 year tradition and a hand-hammered bell. The fullness of sound and projection from the Sonaré trumpet owe a debt to the one-piece bell made by Sonaré's German partner. All Sonaré trumpets are tested before they leave the factory in Germany. We combined the bell with the leadpipe and mouthpiece of trumpet guru, Cliff Blackburn, of Decatur, Tennessee. Each Sonaré trumpet comes standard with a Blackburn leadpipe, designed especially to suit the Sonaré trumpet body. Cliff makes each leadpipe in his Tennessee, USA workshop. Meticulous attention is focused on the size and shape of the tapers. The result is a free-blowing trumpet appropriate for both classical and jazz, with impeccable intonation and response.
With the Sonare trumpet you can say goodbye to valve alignment jobs! Sonaré's MicroLok™ valve system (patent pending), co-invented by Cliff Blackburn and Steven Wasser of Powell Flutes, revolutionizes valve alignment. Every trumpet then receives cryogenic treatment as a standard feature. The deep-freeze treatment relieves stress in the metal that normally occurs during the making of a trumpet. The benefits of cryogenics for the player are a broader spectrum of colors and enhanced response, especially in the high register.

Sonare trumpets are available in 4 models with lacquer or silver bodies and brass or sterling silver leadpipes. All are quality tested in the USA by an experienced, Blackburn-trained technician, ensuring that they meet Sonaré’s quality guarantee and are the ultimate in cool.
